Want to explore the lush mangrove ecosystem? Cavort with the friendliest dolphins this side of the Tempest Straits? Get stranded in the middle of a pirate town set ablaze in a ruthless gang war with urgent need of a Void Walker to materialize next to you with a six-pack of assorted potions?

We are the right fit for you! We love to cruise, tag sharks and sip piña coladas (not necessarily at the same time).

Oceanographers, map makers, marine biologists, naval mine appreciators and mariners of all stripes are compelled to join. For any curious onlookers we do guided yacht tours through the straits twice a day (Saturdays off, only morning tour on Sundays).

ITINERARY

• Secure a yacht
• Locate all the X's
• Protect wildlife from poachers
• Protect club members from wildlife
• Sail beyond the shores of Shantytown to assess reef health once the giant chains blocking the way have been cleared
• Lobby the Ministry of Environment to outlaw giant chains as they pose ever-present threat to marine life

Nature Survey, Part I

As many of you have no doubt encountered already, the Tempest Straits are home to a healthy assortment of flora and fauna. Little surprise, considering the vast and varied biomes that saddle either side of the straits.

While most creatures are timid and hard to spot (presenting at most a fleeting glimpse before jumping behind a bush or diving under the waves) a number of animals have been spotted mulling around cautiously, keeping a wary eye on nearby onlookers.

Once interacted with they inevitably turn hostile, rarely letting up in their aggression until the offender is mauled to death or has fled the vicinity. We here at the Caribbean Cartography Club strongly condemn close contact with curious critters. We believe nature is best enjoyed when observed from a safe distance, and such will never condone feeding (and/or wrestling with) wild beasts.


Some of the documented animals include:

• Parrots, always flying around and shrieking in the treetops. Can be found on most islands, particularly around Free Anchor Town. Seem to be harmless albeit annoying.
• Bears, lumbering around menacingly in the higher altitude forests north and east of New Thetis (on the continent I call “Ideal Society Land” for lack of documentation on any nomenclature to refer to it). They seem to hibernate in the many caves and crannies scatted around the Paha San mountain ranges.
• Desert Wolves, stalking the mesas and dry grasslands surrounding the Verdant Bayou (in what I call “Aberloch Kingdom”, again in absence of a suitable name). These are dangerous, ravenous beasts and I wouldn’t advise approaching them even at the best of times.
• Sharks and Dolphins, at home in the waters all over the Straits. Both exhibit odd behaviour of often breaching the water's surface, perhaps in pursuit of prey. The dolphins seem playful, but the sharks (I suspect) have developed a taste for human flesh.
  Note to self: acquire volunteer to put that to the test.
• Also, while many people have reported spotting a massive sea-creature in the deeper ocean, with some even referring to it as a Kraken (after the mythological beast), I think it highly unlikely anything of the sort inhabits the waters of the Tempest Straits. It is much more probable that the sightings involved some other marine creature, such as a marlin or oarfish, and when accompanied by adverse weather conditions (like fog and cyclones which frequently plague the coastlines) mariners confused what they saw in the water for something much more larger and menacing than they actually did.
  Those of us in the scientific community who deal with facts would do well to dismiss such sightings and hearsay, allocating our efforts to worthier pursuits instead.
