This location is a complete wasteland - You search and find a Clam.

Post by erikune »

A Quick Brown Fox has been doing some searching lately, wandering around and looking at all the tiles for any hidden badges. This has included water tiles, which usually give the phrase This location is a complete wasteland - Nothing can be found! with a 0% search chance and no AP spent in doing so.

However, an odd thing happened. While searching in Founder's Lake in the far northeast of Cordillera - either (64, 10 Cordillera) or (64, 11 Cordillera) - Foxy ended up digging up a clam. Still got the same "complete wasteland" message, but also ended up with the

response as well. I'm not sure if it cost AP to do so.

It's kind of neat, but also fairly strange to be getting items when the big red text would indicate otherwise. Searching the same tile multiple times just got the "complete wasteland" afterwards, with no AP spent and no more clams. I'm not sure if this is an intended bonus behavior, an odd item bug, or just a strange message interaction. I thought I'd mention it, at least before every Elementalist tries surfing around for 0AP and burning the server down hunting for free clams.

There's a pending fix for this that should always revert to You Find Nothing in the event of an error like this.

This has an additional perk in that it leaves the chance of finding someone in an unsearchable unhideable location, which Shepherds are capable of doing with the inherently magical Sanctuary power.
