As of a recent update to the way the skill Way of Lightning works happened and it really has affected my play-style for the worse. From now on, i will refer to the old way of lightening as ES Classic, and the new Way of Lightning as ES Jump.
ES Classic: Movement for 1/2 ap. Cannot Jump.
ES Jump: Movement for 1 ap. Jumping Enabled. "Effectively" moves for 1/2 ap when travelling distances.
I understand ES Jump was implemented because of the classe's extra mobility issues in the homeplane. I admit I do like the jumping feature, WM and Wizard have been my some of favorite classes for that reason. Especially, how flying potions can effectively give you 1/4 ap movement. But ES is not a casting class and does not have alchemy. Yes you can get them from team-work. But there are quite a few of us either Feral or anti-magic user type ESes, and it is sometime hard to find a flying potion to make the bonus of much use.
Additionally there is the issue of how ES Jump has effected the Tracking Skill. With the 1 ap movement, it significantly lowers your hunting range while tracking a target. Many of the 1/2 ap flying or psuedo-flying classes can "out-run" your pursuit as an ES. There is already the issue of pursuing flying classes as an ES as it relates to the void. This is insult to injury to my poor tracking ES.
My proposed a change would be to make the single square movements cost 1/2 ap and the two square "jumps" cost 1 ap. However, I am not sure if that is possible given the code. I guess this whole post is my way of asking.

Not that I have an ES, but I agree. When the change was discussed, I thought single-tile move would keep the 1/2 AP cost.
But, yeah, may be a coding limitation.

What about flipping it around, and giving ES (and maybe other hunter classes) and advanced tracking ability that lets them see multiple tiles ahead? Would solve this, and also provide a bit of a boost when you're chasing someone that is running in circles.

On Grakmar's thought with regards to letting them see multiple tiles of tracking at the same time, ES already has a tracking related skill so bad nobody noticed it was utterly utterly broken for months. Seeing the next 2 tiles of tracking movement could be added to that without it being in any way overpowered though I have no idea how awkward that would be to arrange with the tracking code...

Do you mean Tireless Pursuit? For a long while my ES was the only one using it. It seemed to work fine showing the "freshest" trail in a stack of trails. But for 30 CP, i thought that Psychometry was enough.

I did mean Way of Tireless Pursuit, just forgot exactly the flavour of the bug. Searching back through discord it didn't get bought by anyone for two months and then (until fixed) actively bricked the first character to buy it outside of the dev server.
My thought is that seeing the next two steps and it being good enough to stand on either of them would actually be a bigger buff than it sounds since it would also auto-shortcut following people in and out of single square buildings. Should hopefully work to fix the problems with new WoL tracking interactions without going silly in any direction so long as it isn't a massive bear to work with the tracking code.
