Skill (Eternal Soldier): Master of the Thunderous Step

Post by Atrele »

60 CP skill of Way of Lightning.

The Eternal Soldier may Thunderous Leap to any location within sight, similar to the Wizard Skill Blink and Wyrm Master skill Twisted Leap. This does stack with Way of Lightning, allowing the Eternal Soldier to move 4 squares with 1 AP using Thunderous Leap under the influence of Way of Lightning. The Eternal Soldier may enter squares not normally enterable without flight or another such skill.

Furthermore, every time the Eternal Soldier either moves under the influence of Way of Lightning or Thunderous Leap (Only one is necessary) the Eternal Soldier gets one status tick of "Thunderous Step".

An Eternal Soldier under the influence of "Thunderous Step" gains three benefits. The first is that if the Eternal Soldier is on a square that requires flight, the Eternal Solider is treated as if they are flying. This does not include the prohibition of Hand to Hand or Melee attacks against targets that are not flying: Thunderous Step also permits the Eternal Soldier to attack a target regardless of range.

The second is that the Eternal Soldier is immune to any hazard damage from stepping into the square. This does not include Planar damage.

The third is that the Eternal Soldier gains a +2 bonus to all Hand to Hand and Melee attacks with a further +10% attack modifier to Kick attacks. If the Eternal Soldier makes a successful Kick attack (or similar attack) against a target while under the influence of "Thunderous Step", "Thunderous Step" is extended by three status ticks, and the combination counter is advanced one further level than usual, to the maximum. (This does, in fact, mean that an Eternal Soldier can leap into void and jump kick off of someone's head to keep from falling into the void.)

Finally, an Eternal Soldier with Master of the Lashing Kick gains two innate attacks: "Thunder Strike", a Fist attack that inflicts Electric damage with a +3 damage modifier and "Lightning Kick", a Kick attack that inflicts Electric Damage with a +5 damage modifier and -15% attack modifier. Both attacks gain +1 damage if the Eternal Soldier is under the influence of Way of Lightning or "Thunderous Step", gaining a +2 damage bonus if both statuses are in effect.

Note: Changed Thunderous Step Kick bonus from +1 damage to +10% accuracy, and successful kicks extend Thunderous Step by three status ticks instead of one. This will allow the ES to build up stacks of Thunderous Step. Might come in useful. Movement with Way of Lightning and Thunderous Leap still only grants one status tick, just enough to renew itself. Also lowered Lightning Kick's attack modifier to -15%.

Would this stack with the aura? A bit too strong then, maybe?

I don't think it would stack with the aura, no.

I don't really understand. This is twisted leap, 10% accuracy (kicks only), +2 damage, and two new innate attacks which realistically have +5 damage punch/+7 -5 net % accuracy kick all rolled into one skill. It's way too much. ES h2h is already in a decent balance spot in my opinion, which is to say it's quite strong and certainly better than the other ES options.

I agree with my spiritual guide here.
