Skill: Digestion for WM

Post by SkullFace »

Digestion would be a 60 CP child of Acid Blood. When the WM kills a character in single combat (summoned critter kills don't qualify) they consume the victim's corpse and gain the Digesting status effect for 720 minutes. Digesting adds 5 to the current and maximum HP of the WM and they may have level/4 concurrent instances of the Digesting status effect. Digestion also allows the WM to consume a non-fresh corpse in the area to heal 25 HP at a cost of 1 AP.

Three thoughts I have looking at this:
  • Is the intention for the active kill consuming the body to prevent leaving a corpse or is that just taking a big bite out of it (there's probably annoyances both ways)?
  • Having something that triggers on your personal killing blows only on a petmaster class gives a very tedious incentive to carefully manage things to exactly snipe kills from your pets in a way that isn't hard but instead just really annoying
  • It probably wants to be limited to T2+ targets for the same reason golden goose is, that there probably shouldn't be many motives for T3s to pick on Mortals

Intention is that no corpse remains. You can choose Desecration or you can choose Digestion.

The biggest benefit comes when the WM is the one who strikes the final blow. That's the payoff for managing your critters. There is a secondary corpse consumption element too.

Disagree. Farming mortals has a long, noble history in the Nexus. Think Desecration, Life/Soul Vampire or kill stats or similar. As for the comparison? Golden Goose is half the CP cost of this ability.

I was understanding right then on the kill eating front. Probably wants to be some level of toggle to make it optional even if you have the skill then as sometimes you would rather have an extra floor desecrate and then eat the body for instant healing vs +5 max hp for 12 hours. I guess letting pets get the killing blow could almost stand in for toggling it off...

I don't think I'm seeing the dream of this design, admittedly... The added HP pool is neat under the right conditions, but it's directly working against Wyrm Master's core identity as a Summoner with some mechanical clunk, as well as competing as a source of healing and corpse removal with Blood Ice and Desecration (also a core component via Defiler). I'm not sure what an attractive cost is for supplanting those existing options with this one, or what levers you could pull to make the cost attractive.

I don't see post-kill Desecration of a corpse to be that powerful. The suggestion is to trade in that second Desecration for a Digestion in order to have a known result.
