When a lightspeaker's Male Foo Lion triggers its door repair ability, it also unlocks the door, so it impedes a character trying to do the following grinding sequence (for doors/lockpicks simultaneously):

repair door
lock door
step outside
pick lock
kill door
step inside

I was interested you were using doors for a defensive purpose
nope just grinding

I don't see a way around this since the field that the database stores door information (whether the door is intact, damaged or gone) also tracks whether the door is locked. Since the door was destroyed, the state it was in prior to being destroyed can't be stored without adding yet another information field.

I don't think this is worth changing for the sake of optimal grinding, and door mechanics are kinda bad overall.

It's all good. To be more specific:

If I repair the door, lock it, then step outside on the same pet tick that should trigger the Foo Lion door repair, it will trigger the repair and (I assume) overwrite the door condition which also unlocks it.

Relatedly foo lion door repair also closes the door:
