Unable to attack barricades

Character stands south of a barricaded library and is unable to travel north. Door action menu includes 'attack barricades" dropdown with "Barricades(North) and a weapon choice.
Attacking with melee (baseball bat), or a dart spell:
"There are no barricades in that direction for you to attack!"
