Unable to cast spells from leyline when insufficient user mp

I was unable to cast a spell or overwrite a spellgem when connected to a leyline with insufficient personal MP.
Basically the option was unavailable in the UI as if I didn't have enough mana to do the action.
Tap anchor effect said 80 so the ley line was not wrung out.
