Hurled weapons listed on targets panel are not allowed

Dagger (average), hurled - 4 piercing dmg, 25% to hit

Is listed on shoot target drop down menu, but if I try to use it, I get

You cannot use that weapon to shoot at targets because it is not a ranged weapon.

Also observed on attempting to hurl my now-empty pistol. That bottle of wine is mocking me!
