I think it'd be an interesting mechanic if items that were destroyed on death were also dropped onto the floor of the tile. IE when this happens:
- Jabberwock attacked you with a Blood Claws and hit for 7 points of unholy damage. This was enough to kill you! (2025-08-13 18:19:36)
- Your Can of Chili con Carne has been destroyed! It has been removed from your inventory.
Jabberwock would also see:
- A Can of Chili con Carne falls to the ground from their lifeless body.
And the Can of Chili con Carne would be added to the items on the ground.
I'm not sure if this has large scale unintended consequences and would need to be limited to certain items, but I think there's a lot of inherit fun in "looting" your victim a little bit. Also not sure if the destroyed message would need to be changed to something like "as your spirit departs your body, you lose your grasp on your Can of Chili con Carne" etc

Re: Gameplay : Dropped destroyed items
This seems like a really, really good idea to me.
With one caveat - it opens the possibility of deliberately armor breaking someone's enchanted armor to destroyed, then killing them in order to have a chance to steal their enchanted gear. That would be a bit too hardcore in my view. So maybe it just shouldn't apply to repairable items.

Re: Gameplay : Dropped destroyed items
This does not make sense story-wise.
The item is removed from inventory because it is "worse than destroyed", in other words it is damaged so much it is effectively just scrap.
I can imagine a mechanics that automatically drops a "junk metal / tattered cloth / pile of wood splinters / pile of glass shards / etc" junk item for flavour, but definitely not the original damaged item.

Re: Gameplay : Dropped destroyed items
The description would change from 'x was destroyed' to 'x was dropped'.
There's not really a thematic issue except when it's applied to items with clearly written durability, which realistically has issues of it's own and should probably not be included.

Enchanted items should not be lost in the first place. Just as a quality of life thing.
